Mike joined E3 in January 2015 and has since gained a wide range of experience in protected species surveys on a variety of different projects. Mike specialises in butterfly surveys and mitigation, and has been the Northumberland County Recorder since 2015. In addition he has considerable experience in conducting habitat surveys, newt and bat surveys (including aerial tree inspection) and project management. During the winter of 2015-16, Mike spent 6 weeks trekking to Everest base camp. 

Prior to joining E3 Mike gained experience of practical habitat management and ecological surveys whilst volunteering with the Durham Wildlife Trust and with an ecological charity in Thailand. Whilst at university he undertook courses in botany, entomology and ornithology and research projects into the effects of media coverage on great crested newts in the UK and the calaminarian habitats associated with mining works in the Durham Dales.
