In addition to carrying out ecological assessments, the E3 aims to provide a diverse service covering a wider range of ecological and conservation initiatives:

The practice is based at Pasture House Farm within the North Tyne valley, a smallholding of around 8 acres. Eight new rural jobs have been created already, with an average 'walk to work' trip of 5 minutes - with 5 living in Wark.

The land is being managed to maximise its value to native flora and fauna with a variety of habitat types being created using local seed sources. In the medium-term, it is aimed to commercially harvest the resulting native wildflower seed and to offer a harvesting service to local farmers to provide a high-value crop that will promote the conversation and sound management of surviving species-rich grasslands.

We are developing a digital photographic flora to allow the rapid identification of all the common UK plant species. The key will be aimed at young people, working with their innate strengths of recognising images and using computers to encourage an interest in natural history, training the ecologists of tomorrow.

The company also produces bat and barn owl boxes to order, with research being carried out into how the design of these artificial roost sites can be modified to maximise their value to individual species and if this can mitigate the loss of roost sites in traditional rural buildings.
