Bat Hibernation Roosts in Northumberland
A study was completed over the winter of 2008-2009, aiming to identify hibernation roost sites in Northumberland, an area of the country where few such roosts are known.
Remote monitoring work was completed at a number of ice houses, mine sites and caves.
When data was analysed, the presence of roosting bats of a number of species was identified at a series of sites.
Where hibernation sites have been demonstrated, swarming surveys are going to be completed during the coming active season, in order to determine whether these hibernation sites are also used as swarming sites during the spring or autumn periods.
