Ross is an exceptional field ornithologist with extensive field experience throughout the UK. He undertakes a wide range of specialist field surveys and is fully conversant with all key survey techniques. Recent work has included survey of a series of potential on-shore wind farm sites, quarry sites and large scale housing sites. Ross has also developed a sensitive bird area map for six local authorities in the north east.

Prior to joining E3, Ross worked as a warden on the Farne Islands, and as a National Trust volunteer at South Shields Leas and Souter lighthouse and as a Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust volunteer at WWT Washington. Ross has worked as Assistant County Recorder for Durham bird group.

He has undertaken a variety of surveys including WeBS, Beached Bird Survey and BTO winter warbler survey and published a number of papers in the ornithological press. He is currently undertaking work for both the British Birds Rarities Committee and Slender-billed Curlew Group and is carrying out research on habitat use by Brent Geese as part of an MPhil at Newcastle University.
